Refit Specification
Assistance in creation of refit specifications for yachts or ships. These can include vessel visits and inspections and be detailed or in outline form. I can act as the owner's representative, or, more usually provide technical assistance and advice to the existing owner's representative - usually the captain or management company.
Refit monitoring
Periodic attendance during refits to confirm progress is meeting the specification in terms of time, quality and costs. During a refit, it is easy for those on site to become closely involved in details and it is often helpful for an "extra pair of eyes" to visit periodically and assist in keeping the overall project on track.
Repair specification and monitoring
Specification of repairs such as renewals of rotting wood, or repairs after damages to GRP or composite hulls. When yards offer repairs to owners, sometimes, it is difficult to compare quotes and proposed methods due to a lack of consistent style used by the yards. I can provide assistance with such comparisions and discussions with yards.
Sea trials
Attendance on sea trials where the yard demonstrates machinery and equipment performance. This can include monitoring of engine temperatures using IR optical monitors, confirmation of systems correct operations such as navigational gear and "hotel items such as the refrigeration and air conditioning etc.
